Artist Statement

Artist Statement: Having been born and raised in the United States in a Mexican household, my work primarily focuses on social issues relating to race, ethnicity, and immigration. Although I take interest in visually representing data, I am also interested in the relationships between abstract numbers and the personal narratives and concepts representing them. I am a research-based multimedia artist whose primary use of materials and color palette is influenced by the conceptual aspect of my work. I first begin by researching a topic or concept I find pertinent in today’s culture. I then select imagery to best represent the concept at hand – often abstracted. My work asks to be engaged with, not only through observation but through participation. Website: jeanettecasas.weebly.com
