Artist Statement

As a visual artist and metalsmith, I create work that connects the wearer to the essential power of the Earth and human origin. We are each created with a purpose and design in mind, and so are my pieces. A narrative is created with each strike of my hammer and every burning flame of my torch. I am inspired by western patterns and my life as a rancher’s wife. I am inspired by the miracle of life as a newborn calf walks unsteadily to its mother. How the sun paints the sky in strokes of lilac, white, rose, and scarlet as I feed my animals before I feed myself. The way the wind shakes my body as I hold a baby goat that did not make it. I am inspired by the way the afternoon sun heats my skin and refreshes my spirit. In my metalwork I use traditional metalsmithing techniques, and create each piece of jewelry from hand. Ethically sourced cabochons are chosen with a design and purpose in mind, and then set on sterling silver. Every detail is handled with great care and precision, from hand pierced silhouettes, to hand forged accents, and hammered textures. I create a design in mind by the stones and gems I use. I believe that every stone I work with, from turquoise to labradorite, holds an ancient tale of the land, waiting to be told.
