Abstract
Clinical nurse educators oversee students in clinical practice settings to teach safe and effective patient care. Current national shortages require schools to utilize novice nurse educators to fill these roles. Clinical nurse educators enter academia with varying backgrounds, experiences, and educational preparations. Novice nurse educators might struggle with role ambiguity with increasing levels of stress during the transition process. Recent national competencies were created to clarify the clinical nurse educator role. This study explored clinical nurse educators’ perceived self-confidence in performing competencies through a mixed methods approach using the Clinical Nurse Educator Skill Acquisition Assessment (CNESAA) and interviews.
