Description

A collection of letters from Joel Estes, Founder of Estes Park, as well as brief histories written by his descendants and other people close to him. Included is the history of Joel and Patsy Estes' early years, travels to Colorado, and eventual settlement in Estes Park. In his letter to Joel's grandson, Harry Ruffner, Joel discusses the earliest years of Estes Park and looks back on the encroachment of civilization and of settling the West. These letters and histories were presented to the State Historical & Natural History Society of Colorado by Harry Ruffner on August 15, 1921.
