Abstract

Generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) is transforming higher education and requires departments and programs to assess their learning goals, teaching methods, and assignments while ensuring students receive a high-quality, human-centered education. This toolkit helps UNC academic unit chairs and directors lead productive, respectful, and future-focused discussions about GenAI in curriculum, pedagogy, and assessment. Content development was supported by ChatGPT (OpenAI) and was finalized through human review and approval. The toolkit provides facilitation guidance, discussion prompts, activities, and templates to support academic units as they clarify values, prepare students and faculty for emerging GenAI-related skills, and plan next steps for teaching and learning.
