Abstract
In this presentation, you will learn: 1. Guidelines for using respectful ethnic terminology (e.g., is it okay to use the term Hispanic?) 2. The difference between ethnicity and ethnic identity. 3. The importance of individual factors associated with Latina academic success/failure, as well as: 4. External (e.g., contextual, systemic, ideological) factors; the negative impact of Deficit Model theory and language; and 5. How to evaluate the level of inclusiveness in your teaching style--is it Cultural Sensitivity/Awareness, Cultural Competence, or Insurgent Multiculturalism?
