Bear Clan Totem Repatriation

The Bear Clan Totem, known in its time on campus as "Totem Teddy," was a UNC mascot for nearly 100 years. In 2003, a delegation from the Central Council Tlingit and Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska visited the UNC campus to verify the identity of the totem and completed the totem’s 5000-mile journey back home.

This collection documents the repatriation of the Bear Clan Totem. View the full online exhibit on the Bear Clan Totem Repatriation Exhibit page, and learn more about the totem at The Legend of Totem Teddy.
