Open Educational Resources (OER) are, according to UNESCO, “learning, teaching and research materials in any format and medium that reside in the public domain or are under copyright that have been released under an open license, that permit no-cost access, re-use, re-purpose, adaptation and redistribution by others.”

In practice, OER:

  • support student learning by eliminating textbook costs;
  • enhance student success by increasing course completion and passing rates;
  • create the opportunity for more equitable teaching because they can be adapted to students’ specific needs.

The open textbooks and textbook reviews in this collection, some of which were created with the financial support of the Colorado Department of Higher Education’s OER Grant Program, can be used as-is or adapted for local needs according to the license terms.
