Abstract
In this faculty lunch forum, we will discuss strategies for implementing more opportunities for academic writing in courses across the university. In particular, we will talk about how to: 1. Incorporate short writing exercises that can help to generate class discussion; 2. Encourage exploration and/or retention of ideas; 3. Enable students' self-sufficiency. We'll also talk about how to grade/assess such writing exercises, as well as when and why it can be productive not to grade them -- depending on what the purpose of each exercise is and how it functions within the content and work of a particular course.
