Call for Autoethnographic Education Manuscripts
Autoethnographic Education
The Journal of Educational Research and Innovation (JERI), an international peer-reviewed open resource journal, seeks articles for a themed issue on Autoethnographic Education for its 2026 edition—JERI’s website: https://digscholarship.unco.edu/jeri/ Autoethnography examines culture by incorporating personal experience within traditional social science. The author situates the self, the “I” (i.e., “auto”) within their lived context to reveal layers and levels of consciousness linking the personal to the sociocultural (i.e., “ethno”) through writing (i.e., “graphy”). This research approach is distinguished from other forms of personal writing in that it (a) foregrounds particular and subjective knowledge embracing vulnerability; (b) shows sensemaking of culture and cultural practices to challenge the norms of traditional research and representation; (c) contributes to existent research through reflexivity; and (d) creates a reciprocal relationship with the audience through an ethic of care.* JERI seeks to stimulate innovation in practice and encourage diverse perspectives and calls for manuscripts addressing the following topics:
- Educational practices at the tertiary, including university, level
- Educational research/innovations in PK-12 education or professional development
- Early childhood, school-age, and teacher preparation, support and development
- The state of obligatory education for teachers, students, families, school communities or school leaders
- Multicultural understandings of teaching and learning
- Evolving theories of teaching, learning, and/or cross-cultural studies
Manuscripts should not exceed twenty-five double-spaced pages (1-inch margins on all sides; see APA style manual). A single-column format will be adopted for this themed issue. JERI accepts contributions on a rolling basis from October 1, 2025, through November 1, 2026, for the Autoethnographic Education edition. A note/letter to the Editor should clearly state that the piece is intended for the 2026 Autoethnographic publication. Questions about this call, or about articles in other than prose form, may be sent to Margaret.berg@unco.edu (Editor).
